Indonesia

Indonesia is in Southeast Asia, between the Indian and Pacific oceans. It is an archipelago which is a country made up of many islands, which in this case is made up of Indonesia's 17,000 islands. Indonesia was formerly known as the Dutch Indies by a German geographer. Affter a period of occupation by Japan from 1942-1945 in World War 2 , Indonesia declared its independance from the Netherlands in 1945. They struggled for many years and continued until 1949 when the Dutch officially recognized sovereignity. Every year on the 17 ^th August Indonesians celebrate with lots of parades, food festivals, formal milatary processions and flag-waving ceremonies.

I absolutely love the food in Indonesia! It is always full of flavour and the portions are massive there! My favourite dishes are beef rendang which my dad makes all the time, kek lapis which translates to layer cake. My mum only makes kek lapis on very special occasions as it take hours to bake as you have to bake each thin layer individually. My all time favourtie Indonesian dish is dendeng! It is a thinly sliced meat which is slightly sweet but salty at the same time. I love it when my dad makes it as he makes lots as he knows I love it.
